In 2016, I had the pleasure of working with a Hip-Hop legend, Saigon.
I met Saigon in 2014 while we (In The Gray Inc) were setting up the Hit ‘Em Hard Showcase (See Past Events) featuring the Brooklyn native. We spoke a lot about music but more about family. I have a lot of respect for Sai as a man as well as an artist. I read once that someone who truly loves what he does never gets tired of talking about it. This is why I know that Saigon both truly loves his kids and truly loves Hip-Hop. We could talk about both of those things all day and being the family man that I am, w’ed never get sick of hearing each others stories.
Earlier in that year, PF Cuttin blessed me with a couple of ridiculous beats. I wrote 4 Elements one morning in about an hour and called PF up to go record it. I was done with it and thought “It’s missing something”. PF thought I was buggin’ cause he liked it the way it was. After meeting Saigon, it hit me. I called my business partner LA Jimenez and said “I want Saigon on this song. I also wanna feature him on our next showcase”. He agreed and we set it up. At first, I didn’t know if Sai would work with me, being that I was still an unknown artist. But after the showcase and watching me perform it live, he was sold; and I was ecstatic!
When he sent back his verse, PF was like “I didn’t think it needed another verse, but you were right. This is hot!”. PF Cuttin, a legend in his own right just said that I had a good idea and that my song was hot! I was sky high for a month! I was honored just to be rubbing elbows with artists of their caliber, let alone have them genuinely like what I’m doing as an artist.
A major shout out to Saigon and PF Cuttin for giving me the opportunity to work with them. After the video was released, which I’ll write a separate blog post about, the song was well received by Hip-Hop websites like 2 Dope Boyz, among others.
I LOVE HIP-HOP! DO YOU!?
Sincerely,
Skematics
